WestJet to lay off 120 cabin crew members as of March 2, citing flight suspensions

WestJet Airways Ltd. will lay off 120 cabin crew members as of March 2, blaming the measure on the dearth of flights to Mexico and the Caribbean.

WestJet spokeswoman Morgan Bell says the corporate’s staff had been notified of the extra cuts on Friday morning.

The layoffs come as Canadian airways agree, on the request of the federal authorities, to droop all flights to Mexico and the Caribbean till April 30.

Canada can also be implementing new measures akin to necessary lodge quarantines for worldwide travellers in an effort to gradual the unfold of COVID-19.

Air Canada says it’s weighing measures akin to shortened work weeks to briefly scale back administration ranges as a method of preserving money.

Air Canada mentioned Thursday that it’ll pause all operations of Air Canada Rouge and lay off 80 staff beginning Feb. 8 because of the flight suspensions.
