David Perdue files paperwork for potential 2022 Senate run

ATLANTA — Former Georgia Sen. David Perdue filed marketing campaign paperwork Monday, opening up the potential for the not too long ago defeated Republican to run in opposition to Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in 2022.

Perdue, 71, filed an announcement of candidacy with the Federal Election Fee, an early step towards a attainable bid to return to Washington.

Perdue misplaced his reelection bid throughout a carefully watched runoff final month in opposition to Democrat Jon Ossoff. Ossoff’s win, together with Warnock’s victory over Sen. Kelly Loeffler, resulted in Democrats taking management of the Senate for the primary time since 2011.

In contrast to Ossoff, who is not going to be up for reelection till 2026, Warnock’s time period expires in two years. That’s as a result of Warnock is filling the rest of retired Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson’s time period.

Warnock, who served as pastor for a similar Atlanta church the place civil rights chief the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. preached, is Georgia’s first African American senator.

Perdue is a former enterprise government who was elected in 2014. He was certainly one of President Donald Trump’s chief defenders within the Senate and fell simply wanting the 50% threshold he wanted to defeat Ossoff outright on Nov. 3.
