272 cases of COVID-19 variants found in Canada to date

Almost 300 instances of the COVID-19 virus variants have now been detected in Canada.

On Friday, Canada’s Chief Public Well being Officer confirmed that there have been over 242 instances of the UK variant (B.1.1.7) and 30 instances of the South African variant (B.1.351) discovered throughout the nation thus far.

Dr. Theresa Tam didn’t specify why the variety of instances reported had tripled from the 91 that had been confirmed on January 29.

She didn’t specify which provinces or territories reported the brand new instances, however famous that New Brunswick and Saskatchewan each reported their first instances of the mutations this week.

In Ontario, 69 instances of the UK variant and one case of the South African mutation have been reported as of February 5.

As of February 4, Alberta had seen 68 instances of the UK variant, a number of of which don’t have any ties to journey.

British Columbia had reported six instances of the B.1.1.7 variant and three instances of the B.1.351 mutation as of January 22.
